Discover your organization’s news

Your company contains a wealth of news. Much of it is probably of interest to journalists, bloggers and other site owners, as well as your customers who are looking for online information. Sometimes it can be difficult to think of what the media might be interested in and what you could write a news release about.

So here we suggest a few tips on how to find the news in your organization, thereby maximizing your PR work.

Try doing this:

  1. Write down a list of everything that has happened, is happening and is going to happen within or around your organization and just what makes this unique.
  2. If you find it difficult to come up with news, use the questions below. If you can answer “Yes” to one or more of these then you’ve probably found something newsworthy.
  3. Then match each piece of news you’ve found with the news criteria below. The more criteria you news fills, the more interesting it is likely to be.
  4. Write a news release and send it.

If you answer “Yes” to the follow questions you’ve probably found some news.

  • Has the company recently conducted a survey?
  • Has anyone else conducted a survey that concerns the company or what it does?
  • Can your company present any exciting statistics?
  • Has the company achieved any impressive results?
  • Has the company just hired someone? Or has a key employee left the company?
  • Has the company changed in any way?
  • Has the Board changed?
  • Have there been any changes within the industry, and how will it affect the company?
  • Has the company’s market changed and how will that affect the company?
  • What does the future of the company’s market look like, and how will the company respond?
  • Have you got anything to say which concerns your company and what the media (branch news) are writing about at the moment?
  • Has the company severed its contact with any partners?
  • Has the company just landed a significant customer?
  • Is the company going to arrange or participate in an event?
  • Has your company expanded?
  • Is the company expanding into any new market?
  • Has the company launched a new venture?
  • Has the company changed direction?
  • Has the company made a successful venture?
  • Has the company released or is about to release any new products or services?
  • Has the company launched or is about to launch a new campaign?
  • Has the managing director made an exciting or controversial statement?
